Golden Crescent Rolls

2 pkgs active dry yeast (5-6 tsp)

3/4 cup warm water (110'-115'F)
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup softened butter or margarine
2 Tblsp shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
4 to 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 Tblsp melted butter or margarine

1. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, softened butter, shortening, eggs, salt, and 2 cups flour. Beat until smooth.
2. Add enough of the remaining flour (1/2 cup at a time) to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl and turn once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, at least 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
3. Punch the dough down and divide it in half. Roll each portion into a 12 inch circle. Brush melted butter over dough and cut each circle into 12 wedges. Roll up wedges from the wide end and curve to form crescents. Place with point down about 2" apart on greased baking sheets. Cover and let rise until doubled again, about 45 minutes.
4. Bake at 375'F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Brush with butter if desired. Makes 2 dozen.
